Only half of these tours actually go into the Everglades, and I do not mean Everglades National Park but rather any part of South Florida that historically has been called "Everglades". The Everglades is a region that starts in the north with Lake Okeechobee and goes south to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Florida Bay. Anything north of Lake Okeechobee is not, and never has been Everglades. There are wetlands and sawgrass marshes that have some level of protected status in Central Florida, most notably portions of the St. John's River Basin. Many of the Airboat Tours in this list are in Central Florida, which although may not be the Everglades they still offer a scenic wildlife experience and a look at the natural Florida beyond the theme parks.
